Yes! LifePulse is completely free to use. There are no hidden charges, subscription fees, or costs for requesting or donating blood. Our mission is to save lives by connecting donors with recipients, and we believe this service should be accessible to everyone.
Blood Donation Requests
To request blood through LifePulse:
- Open the app and tap on the home screen
- Select whether the blood is for "Myself" or "Someone Else"
- Choose the required blood group (if requesting for someone else)
- Select the urgency level:
- Standard: Need within 24 hours
- Urgent: Need within 6 hours
- Critical: Need within 1 hour
- Tap "Send Alert to Nearby Donors"
Your request is sent to eligible donors within 5 km for standard, 10 km for urgent, or 20 km for critical requests.
LifePulse uses urgency-aware location matching: 5 km for standard, 10 km for urgent, and 20 km for critical requests. The wider emergency radii improve reach while keeping standard requests local.
Yes, you can cancel your request at any time before it's fulfilled. Go to "Request History" and tap the "Cancel" button next to your active request. If a donor has already accepted your request, they will be notified of the cancellation.
After sending a request:
- Nearby eligible donors receive a notification
- Your request appears as "Pending" in your Request History
- When a donor accepts, you'll receive a notification with their details
- You can contact the donor using the phone number shown in the accepted request
- After donation is complete, mark it as "Fulfilled"
Donor Eligibility
LifePulse checks your eligibility automatically based on:
- 90-Day Cooldown: You must wait 90 days after your last donation
- Antibiotic Restriction: 15 days must pass since completing antibiotic medication
- Availability Status: You must have donation availability enabled in your profile
The app will show you as "Eligible to donate" or display how many days remain until you're eligible again.
The 90-day (approximately 3 months) waiting period is a medical requirement to ensure your body has fully recovered and replenished red blood cells after donating. This cooldown period is essential for your health and safety. LifePulse automatically tracks this for you and will notify you when you're eligible to donate again.
Your last donation date is updated automatically when a LifePulse donation is completed. Manual editing is disabled so eligibility and reward records remain consistent. Contact support if an external donation needs to be recorded.
Accepting Donation Requests
When you receive a donation request notification:
- Open the LifePulse app
- Go to "Pending Requests"
- Review the request details (blood group, urgency, recipient name, distance)
- Tap "Accept" if you can help
- Confirm your commitment in the popup
- Keep the commitment active so the recipient can contact you to coordinate
We understand that circumstances can change. Open Donation History, find the active commitment, and tap "Withdraw." The recipient will be notified, and an unexpired request will return to nearby eligible donors automatically.
Yes! In the Pending Requests screen, you can tap "Dismiss" on any request you're not able to help with. The request will be hidden for 1 hour, after which it will reappear if still active. This allows you to focus on requests you can actually fulfill.
Notifications & Location
Location access is essential for LifePulse to:
- Match you with nearby blood requests using urgency-aware radii
- Store the request location needed for nearby matching
- Calculate an approximate distance for eligible donors
- Enable quick response in emergency situations
Your exact coordinates are used by the backend for matching and are not shown to donors. Eligible donors receive only a rounded distance to a nearby request.
To ensure you receive urgent blood requests:
- iOS: Settings → LifePulse → Notifications → Enable "Allow Notifications"
- Android: Settings → Apps → LifePulse → Notifications → Enable all
We recommend enabling notifications for urgent and critical requests to help save lives!
Yes! Go to your Profile and toggle "Available as Donor" to OFF. This will pause all donation request notifications while keeping your account active. Don't forget to turn it back on when you're available again!
